Magic Bookmark now recaps audiobooks. What does version 1.1.1 change?

The recap app that worked from a photo of your page now works from the last line you heard. A small release note with a big effect for listeners.

27 oct 2026: Magic Bookmark version 1.1.1, released on the US App Store on 27 October 2026, adds audiobook support: instead of photographing a page, you type the last phrase you heard and the app syncs to that spot. The recap, cast list, spoiler-free questions and character chat then stop at that point, for any supported title, on iPhone. Pricing is unchanged: first book free, then $1.40 to $4.99 per book.

What changed in version 1.1.1?

The App Store "What's New" note for 1.1.1 reads: "Now with audiobook support: get spoiler-free recaps for any book format." Before this release, you told Magic Bookmark where you were by photographing the page in front of you or typing the page number, which works for print and ebooks but not for a voice in your earbuds.

For audiobooks you now enter the last phrase you heard. The app matches it to your place in the book, then everything it shows you is limited to the story up to that point: a recap that stops there, a cast list built only from characters you have met, a box for questions such as "wait, are they together yet?", and character chat where a character answers in character and knows only what you know.

Why does a recap matter more for audiobooks?

Audiobooks are easy to lose the thread of. You listen in the car, on a walk, half-asleep, and there is no page to flip back to. Scrubbing back 20 minutes to find a name is clumsy, and asking a general chatbot means telling it where you are and hoping it does not mention the ending.

Kindle's free recap features, Story So Far and Ask this Book, are built for Kindle ebooks. They do not see an audiobook you are playing in Libby, Libro.fm or Spotify. That is the gap 1.1.1 fills, for the titles Magic Bookmark supports.

Which books and devices does it cover?

Supported titles only. Magic Bookmark launched with the romance, fantasy, romantasy, YA, science fiction and historical fiction titles popular on BookTok and Bookstagram, and says it adds more every day. Titles shown on its website include Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, Onyx Storm, A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass, The Hunger Games, Mistborn, Dune, The Hobbit and Pride and Prejudice. You can request a title in the app.

It runs on iPhone with iOS 16.4 or later. The App Store listing also shows Macs with Apple M1 or later, but its header says "Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS." There is no Android or web version yet; the website says Android is on the roadmap. The app is in English.

What does it cost now?

Nothing changed on price. The download is free and your first Bookmark Credit is free. One credit covers one whole book, however often you come back to it, and credits never expire. After that: 1 credit for $4.99, 5 for $19.99 ($4.00 each), 10 for $34.99 ($3.50 each) or 50 for $69.99 ($1.40 each). There is no subscription.

That cost sits on top of the audiobook itself, which you still borrow or buy elsewhere. Our Audiobook Price Index prints the recap add-on on its own line for that reason.

Does this change its score?

Our Magic Bookmark review scores it 60 out of 100 as a desk review, held back by catalog breadth, iPhone-only availability and its short track record. Audiobook support widens what the app can do with the books it supports, but it does not change the catalog, the platform list or the staying-power question. The score stays at 60 until our next scoring pass; the review, published the same day, already covers audiobook support.

Privacy is worth reading before you install: the App Store privacy label lists identifiers used to track you, and links purchases, contact info, user content (photos), search history, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics to you.
