How do we check the prices on this site?
Every price on this site comes from the company's own pricing or help page, or from a dated news report when the company has not published one, and carries the date we checked it. "Desk-checked" means we read the published price, not that we paid at a live checkout. Per-book figures divide a monthly price by books finished. When a price moves, we change it and date the change.
Where do the prices come from?
First choice is the company's own plan or pricing page (Audible's plan page, Amazon's Kindle+ explainer, Spotify's support center, the App Store listing for apps sold there). Second is the company's newsroom announcement. Third, only when neither exists, is a dated report from a named publication, which we cite.
We use US prices before tax unless a page says otherwise. Promotional prices and trials are not used as the headline price; we note them only where they change a decision.
What does desk-checked mean?
We read the published price and terms and recorded the date. We did not necessarily subscribe and pay at that moment. Most prices on this site are desk-checked, and they say so. A price is marked as verified at checkout only when we have paid it.
This matters because some prices vary by account, region or app store. If what you see at checkout differs from our page, tell us and we will date the fix.
Prices bought inside an iPhone or Android app can also differ from the website price for the same plan, because app stores take a cut and some companies pass it on. When in doubt, compare the website price before subscribing in an app.
How is cost per book calculated?
Monthly price divided by books finished in that month. For buffet subscriptions, the whole fee is spread across the books you finish. For credit plans, the credit covers one book and each further book is priced at a stated list price, which we print beside the math. We never divide by books borrowed or downloaded, because unread books are not value.
How often are prices re-checked?
Our main scoring pass was dated 1 August 2026, and pages added or updated since carry their own dates; this round was checked on 27 October 2026. Any price that moves in the news (a rename, a new plan, a price rise) is re-checked when we see it. Each review's changelog records the change and the date.
What happens when sources disagree?
We use the most specific official source and say which one. When Audible's plan page and a third-party article give different prices, the plan page wins. When an app's website and its App Store listing differ, we quote both and note the difference, as our Magic Bookmark review does for Mac availability. When a company has not published a number at all, the cell says "not documented" rather than borrowing a figure from a forum.
We also check our own pages against each other. If the price tracker and a review disagree, that is our error, and we fix both with a dated note.
How do corrections work?
Write to corrections@bestbookapps.com with the page and what you saw. If we confirm it, the number changes and the changelog records the date and what changed. We do not make silent edits to prices or scores.
