Spotify is taking audiobooks to 180+ markets. What changes for listeners?
Announced at the Frankfurt Book Fair on 7 October: wider availability, a different hours allowance in new markets, and page numbers for the feature that moves you between print and audio.
27 oct 2026: On 7 October 2026 Spotify said audiobooks will reach more than 180 markets by the end of 2026, up from 22. Eligible Premium subscribers in the new markets get 12 hours of audiobook listening a month; US Premium Individual still lists 15 hours. Spotify also added page numbers to Page Match, which lets you scan a printed book's ISBN barcode and jump to the matching spot in the audiobook.
What did Spotify announce?
Spotify's newsroom post of 7 October 2026 says audiobook access will expand from 22 markets to more than 180 by the end of the year, with more than 350,000 titles available in the new markets across over 120 languages. It names three ways in: hours included in Premium, the Audiobooks+ add-on for extra hours, and buying a single title outright.
Spotify also says monthly audiobook listeners grew nearly 40 percent over the past year and that Audiobooks+ has passed one million subscribers. Those are Spotify's own figures; we have not verified them.
How many audiobook hours do you get now?
It depends on where you live. In the new markets, eligible Premium subscribers get 12 hours a month. In the US, Spotify's audiobooks page still lists 15 hours a month for Premium Individual, and its separate Audiobooks Access plan ($9.99 a month, US only) also gives 15 hours. Spotify's help center says the number of hours varies by country.
The rules that trip people up are the same everywhere: hours are counted at normal speed even if you listen at 2x, re-listening uses hours again, unused hours expire at the end of each billing month, and on Family and Duo plans only the plan manager gets the included hours. Our Spotify hours guide works through what 15 hours buys you.
What is Page Match, and what changed?
Page Match lets you move between a book's formats without losing your place. You read a few chapters of a print copy or ebook, then pick up the audiobook at the same point on Spotify. Spotify says more than one million readers have used it since February. The October update adds the most requested piece: scan the book's ISBN barcode and use page numbers to find your place.
That is a place-keeping tool, not a recap. It gets you to the right minute of the audiobook; it does not remind you what happened in the 200 pages before it. For a refresher that stops at your page, Kindle's Story So Far covers Kindle ebooks and Magic Bookmark covers supported titles in print, ebook or audio on iPhone.
Does this change our Spotify Audiobooks score?
Not yet. Our Spotify Audiobooks review scores it 67 out of 100 as a desk review. Wider availability helps listeners outside the original markets, but our scores are written for the US offer, where the hours cap and the empty shelf on cancellation are what hold the score down. Page numbers in Page Match are a genuine improvement to the experience criterion, and we will weigh them at our next scoring pass.
Should you switch to Spotify for audiobooks?
If you already pay for Spotify Premium and finish about one average-length audiobook a month, the included hours may be all you need, and the expansion gives many more listeners that option. If you listen to more than that, the hours run out and top-ups add cost; compare that with a library card at $0 and with a credit plan that leaves you owning the book.
If owning what you listen to matters, Spotify is the wrong tool, because access depends on your Premium plan. Check the hour count your own plan lists in your account before you rely on it: the number differs by market and by plan.
