Short answer: four of 30 book apps publish a recap limited to your place in the book: Kindle (Story So Far), Google Play Books (Catch me up), Spotify (audiobook Recaps) and Magic Bookmark. The three big-platform features come free with a book or subscription you already pay for but only work in their own store; Magic Bookmark charges per book and works with any copy of a supported title.

Recap or summary?
Blinkist summarizes the whole book, which spoils a book you are partway through. A recap stops where you are. If you are mid-book, a recap is the right tool; if you want the gist of a nonfiction title, a summary app is. Our guide to the difference: /guides/book-summary-vs-book-recap .
A note on two price sources
Magic Bookmark's App Store page says the first credit is free; its website, checked the same day, offers a two-week free trial with unlimited books. We record both.
