Switching and migration
How to switch from Goodreads to StoryGraph
Short answer
Export your Goodreads library as CSV from Account Settings, upload it to StoryGraph's import page, and wait: shelves, ratings, and read dates transfer. Friends, groups, and comments do not. Budget an evening, mostly for the import queue, then spend fifteen minutes answering mood prompts on your ten favourite books so recommendations start useful.

Step one: export from Goodreads
Open Goodreads on the web, go to My Books, then Import and Export, and request an export. The CSV appears after a few minutes and contains every shelf, rating, review, and date you have logged.
Download it even if you decide to stay. A decade of reading data should not exist only inside one account.
Step two: import into StoryGraph
In StoryGraph, open Manage Account, then Import, and upload the CSV. Imports queue and can take from minutes to hours depending on library size.
Titles that fail to match are listed afterwards for manual matching, usually obscure editions and box sets.
What transfers and what breaks
Transfers: read, currently-reading and to-read shelves, star ratings, read dates, and your own review text. Breaks: friend connections, group memberships, comments, and Goodreads challenge history.
Custom shelves come across as tags, which is close enough that most people never notice the difference.
The first-week setup that makes it stick
Answer the mood and pace prompts on ten books you loved, set your reading goal by hours or books deliberately rather than accepting the default, and turn on the up-next suggestions if you have Plus. Recommendations are only as good as the logging behind them.

Q & A
Questions readers actually ask
- Will I lose my Goodreads reviews?
- No. Your own review text is included in the CSV and imports into StoryGraph, and the Goodreads account keeps working if you leave it in place.
- Can I use both trackers?
- Yes, and many readers do: StoryGraph for stats, Goodreads for catalog lookups and stranger reviews. Duplicate logging is the only cost.
